Szentes

(The County of Csongrád)

The central part in the coat-of-arms of Szents is a sharp bottomed red scutcheon relating to the traditional red-blue colour of the town.

The scutcheon is crossed with a wavy silver band symbolizing the canal Kurca Which flows quietly through the town. From the middle of the Kurca a brown trunked, green leafed palm tree emerges with 3 brown sedge-maces on both sides. The ever green palm tree is to symbolize the citizen's obstinate instinet for life, their defiant bearing against trials, and perpetually reviving development. According to an old wise saying: Palma sub pondere crescit. (Loading makes the palm tree grow.) The sedge-mace is associated with the reedy marshland along the canal which offered shelter for the population of the town against different dangers in bygone days. For decoration there is a tournament collar on the top of the scutcheon together with a strapped helmet, a crest of helmet and a crown. A gold medal is hanging on a golden chain around the collar. The colouring of the crest is blue, gold on the right and red-silver on the left relating to the red-blue colours of the town.
