Sajóbábony

(The County of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén)

Triangular military shield azure, erect bears a man’s arm couped holding a bunch of grapes or with leaves argent. (The leaves and the arm form a chevron, while the bunch of grapes occupies the middle part of the shield.) Above the shield a closed military helmet proper, lined purpure, borne affronté. On the helmet a three-legged coronet or is placed. The mantlings are gules-argent on both sides. Below the shield on a scroll the motto SAJÓBÁBONY is borne.

The heraldic device is based on the old seal charge of the settlement: the helmet, the coronet and the mantlings refer to the old society of the settlement, the dominating presence of nobles, who formed a “nobiliary society”.
