The village of Pálmajor is located at a distance of 22 kilometres west of Kaposvár. On the north it is surrounded by beautiful pine forests and the village ploughlands are separated from each other by acacia and alder groves. The eastern part of the village is transsected by the Malom ditch. In the middle of the 19th century a settlement called Páltelke existed in the vicinity of the present-day settlement, which was named after its one-time owner, Pál Somssich. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries the village was registered by the name Pálmajor and it was one of the twenty outer disctricts, which used to belong to the village of Nagybajom. The distribution of the land estates of the Festetics and the Somssich families in 1921 helped many of the poor to start a new life and large number of them was attracted to Pálmajor and they were allowed to settle down in the village. The village school opened in 1923. The settlement suffered a lot in the period of the second world war. The eight-form primary school operated at Pálmajor until as late as 1962, the year, when it was changed into a lower primary school educating children between 6-10 years of age. Since january 1, 1993 there is a minority local government in the village as well.
