The origin of the settlement according to the historical and other researches dates back to 1205. Originally it consisted of three villages: Egyházasszecsőd, Terecsénfalu (Terestyénfalu) and Németszecsőd. The inhabitants are Catholics, Calvinists and Lutherans. The village still has a Catholic and Calvinist church.

The Roman road cut across the three villages. They gave a lot of famous people to the Village during the centuries.

Magyarszecsőd is situated in the County of Vas at a distance of 4-5 kilometres east from Körmend. The No8 trunk road cuts across the Village. Its distance from the Austrian-Hungarian border crossing as well as its distance from Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg is 35 kilometres. The number of inhabitants is on the increase because of its closeness to Körmend.

The Village worth utilising from the point of view of tourism because of the 760 years old registered building of the Roman Catholic Church, the Batthyány Mansion architectural complex and its park, the Calvinist Church and the Dienes crypt. The Batthyány Mansion and its 7-hectare park mentioned earlier deserve special attention. Beside its utilisation for tourism, after the restoration it can also be used as a pension or for social purposes. Coffee bar, kitchen, restaurant or even a hotel can be developed from it. Some parts of the mansion’s outhouses are suitable for industrial enterprises, and the stable is for riding hall.

The mansion is two-storey and it has a cellar. It covers an area of 17 metres by 32 metres. The two outhouses are 7 metres by 25 metres; the stable is 7 metres by 30 metres. The number of the chapel-sized buildings is two. The park is planted with centuries-old trees.

The Village is easy to approach because it is cut across by the No 8 international trunk road. The settlement is well provided with institutions. The lower primary school of three other villages and the mayor’s office operates here. The medical service is solved and the commercial service is reassuring. The kindergarten is provided in association. The through traffic is big on No8 trunk road. Near the Village, along the trunk road a pond of the gravel-pit serves the needs of anglers and tourists wishing to have a rest. The river Rába and its area situated 1 kilometre distance from the Village serves the same purpose.
