Gánt

(Fejér County)

The settlement’s coat-of-arms can be described as follows:

Shield erect and quarterly, it base is curved to a point. The four parts of the shield are tinctured azure and vert and, in addition, a colour, which resembles the colour of the bauxite or. The main charges in the blue and green fields are a bunch of grapes and a tree. In the middle of the shield a circular seal with the legend GÁNTH 1193-1994. In this part of the shield a sheaf of wheat is borne, toward the dexter from it a scythe and to the sinister a ploughshare and a stag are borne.

First the settlement’s name got mentioned in an Árpád-age document of 1193. This was the year when king Béla III bestowed the settlement on the crusaders of Székesfehérvár. In the period of the Turkish Conquest Gánt got depopulated and later it was resettled only in the middle of the 18th century. Gánt’s coat-of-arms is based on the charges of the settlement’s seal print of the early 19th century.

Ein auf vier Teile geteiltes Wappen mit spitz zulaufendem Schild mit Wein und Baum (zwei Teile sind bauxitfarben, zwei grün-blau). In der Mitte des Wappens ist ein runder Stempel, seine Schrift: GÁNTH 1193-1994, im mittleren Teil eine Getreidegarbe, rechts davon eine Sense, links ein Pflug und ein Hirsch.

In den Urkunden der Arpadenzeit wird die Siedlung 1193 zum ersten Mal erwähnt. Da hat Béla III. sie den Kreuzrittern von Székesfehérvár geschenkt. Während der türkischen Herrschaft wurde Gánt eine verwüstete Siedlung ohne Bevölkerung. In der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts wurde sie wieder angesiedelt. Ein Stempelabdruck aus der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts ist für die Gemeinde Gánt erhalten geblieben.
