The wavy bend in the chief is a reference to the brook Gagy, which is running through the settlement. This motif thus can be interpreted as a symbol of the settlement’s natural environment, and, in addition, it is also a reference to local characteristics. The building as charge was taken over from the old seal of the village, thus it is an emblem of the traditions of the local government as well as of the inhabitants’ life and activities The frontispiece of the building recalls a similar motif in the coat-of-arms of the Gagyi family. Members of the Vendégi family, who were the local landowners, considered themselves the descendants of the Gagyi family. Since both families are related to the history of the Aba clan, this motif in the settlement’s coat-of-arms is also a reference to the location of the village, that is, it indicates that Gagyvendégi is situated in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. The surrounding oak branches on the one hand symbolise the richness of the natural environment and they also refer to the flora of the Cserhát region, in which Gagyvendégi is located.
