Review of the settlement:

The name of Folyás can already be found in documents dating back to the Middle Ages. As a manor it features as a relatively big farm in the records of the chapter of Eger. It is situated in the northern corner of Hajdú-Bihar County, in the area between the Tisza river and the Hortobágy region. The settlement has 434 inhabitants; its outskirts take up 5315 hectares with an inner city of 75 hectares. The church ruins along the public road on the outskirts of the village serve as a memorial of the II. World War. One of the biggest battles, historically known both as the tank battle of Debrecen or of Hortobágy, took place near Folyás. The church, which had been built at the request of grand provost Endre Pánthy in 1982, had also fallen victim to this event. The most common form of diversion available in the village and the surrounding area is fishing. The Nyugati-főcsatorna (Western Main Channel) and the fish-ponds nearby have a lot to offer for those looking for peace and quiet on the waterside. The lakes are intensively populated, all kinds of fish are available. The part of the village’s population that is of working age is employed in the factories of the nearby Polgár or Tiszaújváros. The village has no nursery school or school of its own. The children of school-age study in Újszentmargita. Most of the population is Roman Catholic. Piped drinking water, electricity and gas are available in the village, but there is no sewage system yet. The fact that the M3 motorway is close and the development of the industrial parks in Tiszaújváros and Polgár could lead to an improvement in the economic situation of the village and provide a solution to problems of unemployment.
