Detek

(Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County)

Triangular military shield erect and party per pale azure and gules. In field azure a key and a sword are borne crosswise and encouped, both argent. Field gules is decorated with two bends argent. Above the shield a scroll azure and gules topped by two eagle’s wings or. Mantling on both sides an oak branch vert, adorned with acorns or. Below the shield a ribbon is borne encouped with the settlement’s name DETEK inscribed in it.

The partitioning of the shield is a reference to the fact that the contemporary settlement came into being from the union of two villages. The charges of the key and the sword are reminders of the Apostles St. Peter and Paul, the patron saints of the settlement’s church. The red field together with the silver bends in Detek’s coat of arms recall the one-time Abaúj County. The eagle’s wings were originally borne in the coat of arms of the Perényi family, one-time owners of this area. The mantling of Detek’s coat of arms refers to the natural resources and the beauty of the area.
