Dalmand is situated in the statistical area of Dombóvár, 70 kms away from Szekszárd, equally far from Tamási and Dombóvár. Our village can be reached either via a service route from Route 61, or from the other side from the direction of Dombóvár and Hőgyész.
Dalmand was founded in 1138, by the father of Béla, the Blind, Prince Álmos. Later its name was Villa Dalmand, and it belonged to the provostry of Dömös. In 1348, it is a town belonging to the castle of Ozora. The etymology of the village’s name is not mentioned in the records of the Kocsola parish.
Dalmand has been known as Oppidonfrom 1438 till 1500. In 1453, in the Hunyadi era, the territory from Nyék to Dombóvár belonged to the Dombai family. According to the records in 1522, the property was intercepted from Ferenc Nádasdy.
According to the Ottoman tax records of 1552-53, Dalmand belonged to the sanja of Koppány with 12 houses. During the Ottoman wars and battles, Hungarian people suffered a great loss of lives. Dalmand and the neighbouring territories also had this fate.
Records found in the archives of Prince Eszterházy mention that in 1622 Dalmand belonged to Ozora, while Vörösegyháza belonged to the castle of Koppány. According to the 1669-75 census, Dalmand belonged to Ozora with its Serbian inhabitants.
According to the donation letter of July 20th, 1702., Dalmand Vörösegyháza and Csáblény were awarded to Pál Esterházy by the Austrian emperor and Hungarian king Leopold. According to the recording of 1702, all three villages were destroyed, this is the time, when the villages were inhabited by Serbian settlers. In these times, the settlements belonged to the castle of Ozora.
Dalmand has been the property of Prince Esterházy till 1945, who has leased it out with smaller pauses. From 1930, till 1945, it was a state stud. Its location, soil and climate have been good basis for raising horses. It was one of the most famous studs in the country, and very famous horses were raised here, that strengthened the fame of Hungarian stallions. Most of the Hungarian racing horses were raised in Dalmand. The stud of Vörösegyháza and Sütvény also belonged to Dalmand. The village’s inhabitants were mainly wranglers and servants.
The village Dalmand was created out of nine farm-steads that lied several kilometers away from each other, on January 1st, 1950. During the years, the farms-steads have been depopulated, and ceased.
Transportation: Because of its geographical location, Alsóleperd has a better position concerning transportation, only one or two coaches running to the neighbouring villages actually enter our village. The railway between Dombóvár and Mezőhídvég is currently out of order, so the Hungarian Railway Company (MÁV) is running coaches instead of trains.
The outer territories of Dalmand that administratively belong to the village exist because of the activities of the Agricultural Corporation of Dalmand. All four outer territories were created as stock raising farms with all the necessary buildings for the workers. The change in the agricultural activity of the village had an enormous effect on the inhabitants’ life and conditions. The termination of working places encouraged the people to move into the village, and the decreasing number of inhabitants resulted in closing the schools of Alsóleperd, Felsőleperd and Vörösegyháza, and it also put an end to the blossoming community life of the outer territories.
Our peripheries – because of the lack of working places – are getting more and more depopulated. Most of the inhabitants of the peripheries are elderly people, who can’t reach the village without difficulty, therefore they can’t use the services provided in the village. There are no institutions in the peripheries, moreover, because of the small number of inhabitants, there is no grocery store in Felsőleperd, Újdalmand and Vörösegyháza.
In the village a post office, a kindergarten, an elementary school, a childcare service, a doctor’s office and a pharmacy can be found. Specialized medical care (dentist, etc.) is available in Dombóvár. Pupils can choose, according to their interest, between the secondary schools of the neighbouring towns.
There is a small minority of Romanis in the village, and most of them adapted the lifestyle of the villagers. Overall, there are no national minorities in the village.
The Agricultural Corporation of Dalmand has a very important role in the social and financial situation of the village, as it has provided working places for 60% of the inhabitants. With the transformation of the corporation’s structure, this ratio has dropped notably.
Concerning the demography of the village it can be said, that the number of births (11/year) shows a stagnating trend. Unfortunately, we have to say, that there are no opportunities for young people in the village to work, and they have started to leave the village.
Communities of the village: Sports Club of Dalmand, Rozmaring Women’s Choir, and Csillagszóró Dance Company.
Important events of the village: Mayday, Village Day in August, and the Day of Elderly People in December.
